A Slow Start to 2010

Well, here we are the second full week of January 2010 and we are already a bit behind on projects. Our extended period of cold weather has slowed us down a bit. In addition to the extra outside work we had a problem with our air compressor.

The compressor lives in an outside closet and with the longer period of cold weather the little bit of water in the supply lines froze. The net result being that we were unable to cast until I was able to sort things. Heating the closet wasn’t really an option (at least not in any way cost effective). So, I decided to move the compressor into the shop for the duration. Of course this was easier said than done. Between the tight fit in the closet and the snow and ice on the ground it took a little work to get things moved around. Well, to make a long story short, The compressor is now inside and the air supply lines have been reworked and the casting shop is now back in operation.

Come spring, I’ll insulate the closet and move the compressor back to its outside home.  We’ve been operating with this same configuration with much colder temperatures, so I expect the problem was due to the number of days with sub-zero and single digit highs. In any event the casting shop is back in operation and molds are again spinning.

Look for another update, covering new releases (Bloodaxe and Blasted Planets), later this week.

Bus, busy, busy!

The month of November flew by. Now December (and 2009) are almost history too!

Between work, snow and a flu bug I (we) have been so busy that site updates have fallen way behind schedule again…

Fear not. A new year is just around the corner as are some more new figures (Spanish Insurectos for the Moro Rebellion line are just waiting for molds) as well as the next round of Scruby 54mm remolds.

I hope to post once ore before the end of the year – work is slowing down, so I might just have a little more time to work on TTT and other website updates.

If you look at he specials page you will notice that we’ve extended the “free” shipping on Resistant Roosters product through the end of January. Look for some new specials at the end of the month.

Happy Holidays!

Rock-Con Tomorrow

It is now less than 24 hours before we head out for Rock-Con – not quite ready yet, but getting close.

The last week has seen much activity at HistoriFigs HQ. In addition to casting and fulfilling our regular orders, we have been busy with convention preparation. We not only cast our own figures, we also print all of our own packaging. I’m not sure which is more work, casting or printing and cutting packaging materials.

Tomorrow marks the official release of the new Resistant Roosters Early War Germans. The last of the production molds was completed on Monday and the figures were packed out on Tuesday. If you are attending Rock-Con be sure to stop by and check out the new release. I’m not sure if I ‘ll have time to update the Resistant Roosters website before Monday, but be sure to check in Monday night for the updated listing to include the Early War Germans.

While on the subject of new releases I should mention that tomorrow we are releasing the first of our tentacle themed Blasted Planets offerings – the Asti. Pictures and more Blasted Planets news next week.

The third print run of Jack Scruby’s Mafrica map is almost sold out. Only a couple left. Rock-Con may be your last chance to pick up one of these. We will do another print run, but not until we have a sufficient number of requests.

If you are attending Rock-Con this weekend, be sure to stop by and say hi! You might even win some nifty prizes…

Until next time!

Early War Germans II

Way back in August we posted the first pictures of our new Resistant Roosters Early War Germans with a promise to post more pictures once the second batch was in…

Processing the second batch took longer than planned, so pictures have been delayed until now. Once again Randy F. took brush in hand to paint up a set of samples for us. Here now is a peek at our new figures (early war Germans in helmet) as painted by Randy:

I’m finishing up the production molds and will have the first sets available at Rock-Con next week.

Our new figure development process will allow for lower pricing on these (and future) new platoon packs. Check back next week for final pricing on the new Early War German Platoon packs.

Those of you interested in such things as product budgeting and such migth be interested to know that this was our first project with a real budget. Not was it our first with a budget, it was our first to come in on budget! Inital numbers were showing us over budget by $5 to $10, but a second look shows that we brought this one in on (perhaps even a little under) budget…
