Shop Time…

Today, I’m sharing a post from the HistoriFigs site:

A View into the Shop

I had planned on posting more about early war games by email, but have come across some more information that I want to process and then I’ll rearrange the material and present across a few posts.

War Games by Mail

I took a few minutes last evening to do a full scan of the War Games by Mail booklet. This was just a quick scan followed by some minimal cleanup. I plan to do a cleaner scan at a later date when I combine some related materials into a book covering early war games by mail.

For now, we have a readable PDF copy of War Games by Mail

UPDATE: The rules originally appeared in:
War Game Digest, Book I, Volume II, June 1957

If anyone is interested in giving this a try, either the old fashioned way (by snail mail) or same game, but via email, let me know I think this could be fun, and would make an excellent article for TTT.

If you want a, facsimile reproduction, laser printed on mimeograph paper, let me know and I can provide one for the cost of materials and postage (printed on yellow/golden mimeograph paper, just like the original booklet).

Up next will be MEDANC, look for this either Friday or early next week…

Play by Mail War Games

Last night I dug out three rule sets from Jack Scruby. These three don’t get talked about very much. They are (in chronological order): Rules for War Games by Mail, MEDANC and CHICAL.

For today, I’m sharing cover scans (not very exciting) and the first two pages of Rules for War Games by Mail. I’ll be scanning the rules to PDF and posting for download later in the week. These will make for some interesting reading and discussion.

Sadly I cannot locate the maps used for MEDANC and CHICAL Perhaps Gary Z will have some further info concerning these games?

The Men Who Would Be Kings

Always a sucker for new Colonial rules…
I recently picked up (OK, downloaded the Kindle version)  the rules book:
The Men Who Would Be Kings (Amazon Link)  TMWWBK

UPDATED: Need an army to go with TMWWBK?
Checkout Our new Skirmish Pack offering. See HistoriFigs website for more information.

While I don’t think it will replace my long time favorite, The Sword and The Flame it does offer some good guidelines for skirmish games. I have yet to take ’em for a spin, but for sure I’ll be getting my money’s worth out of this purchase.

And speaking of The Sword and The Flame, Sergents 3 is now offering a PDF version of the the 20th Anniversary edition.

More thoughts on PW Army Packs

On the subject of Portable Wargame Army Packs…
Assuming these are starter sets, what do you feel is a good SP value to shoot for?

My initial thoughts are shooting for about 40 SP

Does this seem reasonable?
Too much?
Not enough?
